Hahei is a small settlement situated on the east coast of New Zealand’s beautiful Coromandel Peninsula.

It is a very popular tourist destination to due to its stunning pink shell beach, protected marine reserve and close proximity to world famous Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach.

 

 

Hahei has a resident population of approx. 350, which swells to nearly 10,000 during peak holiday periods.  The village consists of a cafe, gift store, real estate office, ice-cream parlour/pizzeria, general store and service station, brewery and restaurant.

At the northern end of the beach is Grange Road and access to Cathedral Cove, and at the southern end is Te Pare Historic Reserve (once the site of two Maori Pa).

Within 5-10minutes drive in either direction, you can also explore other beautiful beaches and bays, including Hot Water Beach, Cooks Beach, Lonely Bay and Flaxmill Bay.  The township of Whitianga is approx. 25 minutes drive north, or you can take the passenger ferry from Ferry Landing.
